Updating Insider TA to Version 6.1

Insider TA v6.1 is now available. Using the Internet Update facility, this is a free update for all Insider TA v5.x and v6.0 users.

How is Insider TA v6.1 different?

As in the previous update, this latest edition of Insider TA has no changes in user functionality. So what's different? Version 6.1 no longer uses the Borland Database Engine (BDE). The BDE is a thoroughly capable database engine, but there were compatibility issues with Windows Vista. So it was determined that a new database environment was necessary. The new system is embedded inside Insider TA, making the executable file size slightly larger. But it's a more robust system, and one that does not rely on 3rd party system files installed on your computer (which was the way the BDE operated).

In order to ensure a seamless migration of your View Database and other database-specific files (such as historical scan listings), we have included a conversion routine that is automatically run when starting the new Insider TA (i.e., after running the Internet Update function).

For seasoned Insider TA veterans used to running the Internet Update utility, it's pretty much the same process as always... with one exception, and that is outlined in step 2 below.

Here's what to do:

1) Run the Internet Update facility in Insider TA. This will download the new files for the latest v6.1 software.

Downloading updates

When the download is complete, you'll see this dialog:

Downloads complete

2) When restarting Insider TA, you will see this dialog (if you've run the Internet Update utility before, then you will be familiar with this):

Processing updates

Here's the important step: Normally, you would click the Start Insider TA button. But for this one time only, click "Do not start Insider TA". The dialog will go away and you'll be back to your desktop. (Internally, one additional file was updated which is why you needed to avoid starting Insider TA at this time).

3) Now start Insider TA again. You'll then see the final phase in action:

Restructuring tables

The above dialog will appear several times. Each time, it's updating Insider TA database files that hold your past analysis environments. (Note: stock data files are not being touched. It's only Insider TA specific database files that are being converted).

Finally, Insider TA will appear. You should see the reference to Version 6.1 in the splash screen!

If you prefer, you can manually edit the desktop icon to show version 6.1 in the caption (sorry, we didn't include an automated process that updates your icon labels):
