Loading Quotes Plus data into Insider TA™

Direct access to the Quotes Plus (QP2/QP3 only) database is an Insider TA™ Professional feature. Any Application Programming Interface (API) changes that Quotes Plus developers put into their future versions will not be supported by Stock Blocks, Inc., so we can not guarantee compatibility beyond their current "QP3" edition.

There are two ways to load Quotes Plus QP2/QP3 data into Insider TA:

  • To load a known symbol, press Ctrl-Q on your keyboard. A window will pop-up for entering the desired symbol. Be sure no other Insider TA windows are currently active, otherwise pressing Ctrl-Q will not work. You must be at Insider TA's "base window" in order for the Ctrl-Q key press to function...
  • To display a list of symbols, and be able to select from that list in a "menu format", you will need to access the contents of Quotes Plus List Files. Use Insider TA's File Entry Panel to load these list files (explained below), which will allow you to select from a menu of symbols.
  • Note:  In order to select from a list of Quotes Plus symbols into Insider TA's File Entry Panel, simply load one of the list files that's created from a Quotes Plus scan. One scan provided by Quotes Plus is for gathering all QP symbols. That scan creates a list file named "symbols.lst", which can be loaded into Insider TA's File Entry Panel.

Quotes Plus List Files

List Files are ASCII files that contain a list of ticker symbols (one per line). They reside on your computer's hard drive with the file extension "LST". Quotes Plus provides you with some sample list files in C:\Quotes Plus Data\Lists (in previous QP versions, look in C:\qp2data\Lists). For example, any one of the following list files can be loaded into Insider TA's File Entry Panel:

    c:\Quotes Plus Data\lists\sp100.lst
    c:\Quotes Plus Data\lists\sp500.lst
    c:\Quotes Plus Data\lists\slopeu.lst
    c:\Quotes Plus Data\lists\newhighs.lst

Insider TA's File Entry Panel has a "wizard" option that automatically grabs all of the list files that Quotes Plus provides. Click here for more info.

Creating List Files can be done either manually (using a text editor), or automatically (by running a Quotes Plus scan). This latter method is far more efficient!

Access Insider TA's File Entry Panel by clicking the "Load Data File" button, which is located in Insider TA's main window, near the bottom (look for the button shown here to the left). When the File Entry Panel pops up (shown below), enter the full name of the desired list file (in our example below, this is C:\Quotes Plus Data\lists\MOSTALL.LST, which is what we created in our sample Quotes Plus scan). Then, click the "Add Above" button. This stores the LST file into the File Entry Panel's Path Menu, which is the gray region on the left side...

The File Entry Panel is covered on page 9-2 in the Insider TA Users Manual (8th  printing)

After the LST file has been entered into the gray Path Menu, you can click it with the mouse. This will reveal all the stored symbols in the File Entry Panel's File Menu, which is the white region on the right side (observe the symbols "A", "AA", "AAB", and so on, in the above figure). Clicking any of these entries will load the Quotes Plus data for that symbol.

You can also run Insider TA's File Scan Utility on list files. Simply input C:\Quotes Plus Data\lists\MOSTALL.LST into the File Scan Utility's Scan-By-Path List.
